Behind every successful marketing agency are the people who shape its ideas, challenge its thinking and keep everything moving. At Spiders & Milk, those people are Matt and Heidi, husband and wife and the partnership at the heart of the business.
They bring together two very different sets of skills, one shared determination to produce excellent work and an office full of animals with questionable professional standards.
Matt: Strategy, Search and Serious Technical Thinking
Matt oversees the more technical side of Spiders & Milk, including Google Ads, technical SEO and website performance.
He enjoys getting beneath the surface of a business: understanding how customers search, identifying missed opportunities, and creating strategies that connect marketing activity with meaningful commercial results.
Matt also specialises in topical authority.
Rather than producing isolated articles simply to keep a blog busy, topical authority involves building a planned network of useful, trustworthy content around the subjects that matter most to a business and its customers.
Matt heads the team responsible for researching, structuring and producing this content. Every project is designed to strengthen the website’s expertise, answer genuine customer questions and improve how clearly search engines understand the business.
Just as importantly, the work needs to move forward. Content strategies should not spend months sitting in an approval queue or disappearing into an endless production cycle. Matt keeps each project focused, organised and progressing according to a realistic timetable.
He is analytical, strategic and happiest when surrounded by data, search results and a particularly complicated spreadsheet.
Heidi: Social Media, Creative Campaigns and Making Ideas Happen
Heidi leads the creative and client-facing side of Spiders & Milk.
She looks after social media management, social advertising, campaign ideas and creative writing, while also heading the team responsible for blogs, imagery and video content.
Her role is to take the strategy and turn it into something people will actually notice, understand and remember.
That might mean finding a more interesting way to explain a technical service, developing a social campaign that sounds human or transforming a sensible marketing message into an image involving a haunted website, an overwhelmed octopus or a Google Ads monster eating somebody’s budget.
Heidi believes business marketing can be professional without becoming predictable. Clear information and commercial purpose still matter, but that doesn’t mean every business needs to sound or look exactly the same.
She also works closely with clients, making sure their content reflects the personality, values and ambitions of the people behind the business.
Different Strengths, One Joined-Up Approach
Matt and Heidi’s skills naturally complement one another.
Matt concentrates on the strategy, data and technical foundations. Heidi develops the messaging, creative direction and content that bring the strategy to life.
Together, they make sure websites, SEO, advertising, social media and content are not treated as unrelated services. Each part should support the same goals and provide customers with a clear, consistent journey.
It is a partnership built on honest conversations, different perspectives and the occasional spirited discussion over whether an idea is brilliantly creative or completely ridiculous.
Quite often, it is both.
Meet the Less Productive Members of the Team
No introduction to Spiders & Milk would be complete without acknowledging the office pets, often spotted on our monthly marketing client meetings.
Tink is the resident ginger cat and Head of Strategic Sunbathing. Her main responsibilities include sleeping across the office desk, occupying whichever patch of sunshine is most inconvenient and appearing interested in meetings whenever somebody opens food.
Nelly is a ginger working cocker spaniel who takes a noticeably relaxed interpretation of the word “working.” She brings enthusiasm, energy and absolutely no administrative value to the business.
Then there is Lilu, the sprocker. Lilu generally prefers to lie around, observe the working day from a comfortable distance and occasionally make the office smell so dreadful that an urgent evacuation feels entirely reasonable.
Their contribution to marketing performance remains difficult to measure, but morale would not be the same without them.
A Family-Run Agency That Still Feels Personal
Spiders & Milk has always believed that strong marketing begins with understanding the business and the people behind it.
Although we have a fantastic team working with us, clients are not passed endlessly between departments or expected to explain their business again every time somebody new joins a call. We believe you should always have direct contact with the place/people the buck stops. Matt and Heidi remain closely involved, supported by a team that combines technical knowledge, creativity and practical experience.
That personal approach has helped Spiders & Milk build long-term relationships with businesses across a wide range of industries.
After all, good marketing is rarely the result of one clever advert, one blog or one sudden burst of activity. It comes from consistent work, honest communication and a strategy designed to keep moving forward – Preferably without a cat sleeping on the keyboard.
