Digital marketing is often misplaced and misunderstood

So here we will try and break down digital marketing as much as we can, to give you a better understanding and explain the benefits of it.

First of all, digital marketing has nothing to do with the internet!

Confused?

It’s been around a lot longer than anyone would consider.

Born from Morse signal, people figured out very quickly they could use this new method of communication to sell things.

In short, digital marketing is simply marketing products using electronic devices.

From TV advertising to radio, website marketing is just the latest form of digital advertising.

But it has been with us for a long time!

So how do you know digital marketing is right for you?

Let’s face it, newspaper sales and junk mail are becoming a thing of the past.

If your only advertising avenue is posters and newspaper ads then your business will also become a thing of the past.

Most of us walk around with our phones in our hands, in fact since 2014, there has been a massive rise in mobile use.

52% of people access the internet using our handsets, and it also holds our attention more.

This is why it is of the utmost importance to have your business website mobile optimised.

If you do not, you are pretty much giving away over 50% of your potential client reach.

The crux of the matter is, if you don’t get on board the digital marketing train now, you will fall behind your competitors very quickly.

There are two types of digital marketing, online and offline

Digital marketing online can be slightly more complex and delves into areas such as SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing).

All these marketing areas are covered in our website so check out each one to give you a simple break down of what different terms mean.

At its most basic, digital marketing online is any marketing on the internet, whether it’s through your website, paid ads, social media or email marketing.

Digital marketing offline consists of billboards, radio marketing, TV, using the phone (such as sales calls) and text messages.

This is a very good question.

Different businesses have different needs.

You will each have different budgets and be aiming towards a different clientele.

Businesses that need to attract a local market may choose to go down the local radio route or social media advertising.

Whereas large online companies with a global audience will want to reach far and wide for minimal cost.

So you will need to ask yourself, how far do you want your digital marketing to reach?

This will depend largely on your budget.

All marketing costs money

Digital marketing is no different.

Yes, it can reach far greater numbers but you must still plan how much you can afford to spend before going ahead.

Figuring out what will be the most effective form of digital marketing for your budget is the difficult bit.

So ask questions of similar businesses to yours or, look online and see where their marketing appears.

Alternatively, employ a digital marketing agency (like us 🙂 ) who are experts and will have a lot of data to hand to help guide you.
